About CCIT Cathedral

Word from the Bishop

“The church needs to rethink its mission strategy. The KSCF General Secretary Joseph Odingo said to me, “50 years from now the cathedrals in Kenya will be empty if you don’t revise your mission strategy to reach out to the youth in our schools”. And I concur. The case of Turkey should serve as a reminder to us today. The place where the apostle Paul took his most powerful church planting missions is a Muslim nation today.

There are many young people around us that are struggling with identity and purpose. They just need a godly man or woman to point them in the right direction. I have made a deliberate choice to reach out to the youth in our society.

I challenge you to reach out to the young people especially the ones in schools. Teach them, disciple them and train them to be leaders. The only way to keep the fire burning is to raise a godly generation that you can hand over the baton to. ” ~ Bishop Henry Mulandi

Snapshot of our history

In the beginning

By God’s grace the ministry began in 1973 with Bishop Mulandi and a few partners in where they ministered in high schools in the country. C.C.I.T formerly known as the Thika Christian Church started under the African Christian church of East Africa. Bishop Mulandi and the team held a camp in Kiambu Institute in August of 1980.

After the camp, they held Kenya for Jesus crusades in Thika town where they preached the gospel under Regions Beyond Ministry. Regions Beyond Ministries was organized in 1976 and Bishop Mulandi was the chairman; Charles Nkuru now of Nkubu bookshop Meru, was the secretary and Ibrahim.

Julius Muturi was the interpreter to Bishop Mulandi at the crusades before he left for Britain. Others were Andrew Muturi now in the USA, Bishop Stephen Mwangi now in Uganda, Mama Emma, and brother Kahihu. The Lord impressed upon them to begin a fellowship, which met at Mama Emma’s house. Later after the crusade they held the first service at Thika Technical School.

The Lord’s Unprecedented Growth

They held powerful prayer meetings, crusades, lunch hours and evening meetings. There were many testimonies of salvation, healing and deliverance and the church grew in multiple numbers.

Acquiring the Plot

Since the ministry grew in multiples there was a resolution to look for a plot. The members resolved to do via a funds drive. During the fundraising, there happened to be an advertisement for municipality plots for commercial, residential and church purposes.

Mr. Wamwangi the town clerk of Thika Municipality helped Bishop Mulandi identify a plot that was later allocated to the church where the cathedral stands today. They pitched a tent in phase 8 before moving it to the plot. When the church started all ministries were functioning greatly. The church empowered and prepared leaders in obedience to the book of Ephesians.

Weird Accusations

In 1993 the church embarked to fundraise for church office building. Some other churches accused the church of devil worshiping. Also in the 80’s Bishop Mulandi says “we were accused of training gorillas to overthrow the Kenyan Government, Betty and I slept on the floor of police cells for a couple of nights,” he continues “somebody had written a letter accusing us that we were receiving money from abroad to do that but after the investigations, we were cleared.” Rumors spread that Bishop Mulandi was dead and that he had also committed adultery. These were only a few of the accusations that followed the Bishop. However, through prayer and intercessory of the church the story of CCIT is one of victory upon victory against the wiles of the devil.

However, all the many challenges necessitated growth. Many people attended the church and since then people have been flowing to the church. Today CCIT has given birth to more than 300 churches including East Africa and the USA. Bishop Mulandi was the first authorized minister and today there are very many pastors and Bishops who have been licensed and authorized to preach the Gospel. The church continues to grow and Jesus continues to be glorified.

“No eye has seen, no ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.” ~1 Corinthians 2:9
